In 1989, John Eley owned an industrial pressure washer distributorship located in the small farming community of Orchard, Nebraska, (pop. 500). Two of John's sons, Warren and Craig, were not only salesmen for him, but they also operated a mobile wash business in Lincoln, Nebraska. Drawing on their experience in the industrial pressure washer industry, the Eley's identified a need for pressure washer reels product that was more market specific. They began developing and market testing various prototypes.A third brother, Mark, joined the family venture and in March 1990,the company was incorporated.After two years of research and development, a ground-breaking new hose reel design was finalized. Initially operating under the name of Reel Quick, Inc., the new manufacturing company started marketing it's revolutionary new hose reel in July 1991. The high quality and innovative features of the model 5516 hose reels made such a dramatic impact on the industry, that it became the clear market favorite in just two short years. The pivoting hose reel design was so unique that in May 1992 it was awarded a U.S. Patent. Over the next few years, the company's product offering expanded to include a wide variety of styles and mounting options. In 1994, a new line of air hose reels was introduced. Marketed under the Rapid Reel brand name, this line quickly became a favorite for both home and commercial shop applications. In December 1996, after five years of double digit growth and three new building expansions at the Orchard facility, the company relocated its operations to a new 50,000 sq. ft. structure in Lincoln, Nebraska. Since then, the company has continued to expand its operations and product offerings to include utility/storage reels in 1998, garden hose reels in 2001 and oxy-acetylene reels in the fall of 2003. In late 2000, John Eley retired and turned the reigns of the company over to his eldest son, Mark. In January 2003, the company consolidated all marketing efforts under the Rapid Reel brand name.
